Handspun yarn - Wool yarn with silk and nylon, worsted weight, 375 yards - Raag Kirwani Patchwork
$80.00
This is a patchwork skein, spun from various bobbin ends and other bits and pieces. This particular patchwork is mostly Merino along with some other wool types, plus silk and sparkly nylon. This is part of a series 3-ply patchwork yarns Ilga is making, in contrast to our more typical 2-ply yarns.
This listing is for one 3-ply skein, 375 yards in length and weighing 9.5 oz. This is a worsted weight yarn and wraps at approximately 8-12. Like all handspun yarn, it is somewhat thick-and-thin.
Ilga makes these yarns with something of an improvisatory feel, so we have chosen to draw names for them from the ragas or raags of classical Hindustani music. Ragas are musical frameworks that set a mood or coloration, within which the musicians will improvise during a performance. Many ragas are associated with particular times of day. The root word for raga in Sanskrit connotes "to dye", connecting it to our work.
Raag Kirwani is a night raag that resembles a minor key in Western music.
See my Store Policy FAQs section for further knitting gauge suggestions for various yard weights and care instructions for different fibers.
My skeins are wound on a full 2-yard niddy-noddy. If you don’t have a large swift, let me know. Spun in a smoke-free, pet-friendly home.
