This is a hand painted roving, or more properly combed top, for hand spinning and felting.

This roving is shades of green, blue, brown and gray.

Finn, also known as Finnish Landrace, is a hardy breed of sheep native to Finland. They thrive in rugged climates, and produce lambs early and often. The fleece is semilustrous and very open, with a variable crimp and a silky handle. The staple length is about 3" and the diameter 28-30 microns.

This is a blend of natural colored white and brown wool, which we have overdyed. The blending process creates a striped effect, so we call this "humbug" after its resemblance to a striped British candy. The darker wool tends to be a little coarser than the white wool, so this blend will be not quite as soft as a pure white Finn base.

Our rovings are dyed with fairly even distribution of colors. Photos are of each side of the coil, so you can see as much of the color as possible. These are the same rovings from which we spin our yarns, so we dye them for that.

We name our braids based on the inspirations we get from the colors, drawing on nature, literature, mythology, geography, and our lives and travels. Braids with the same name numbered sequentially are a matched set that were dyed together, although they may have different weights and look slightly different in the photos. Each colorway is unique; we may sometimes repeat names, when a new colorway strikes us the same way as an older one.
