This roving is in shades of green, purple, gray and brown.

This is a hand dyed roving, or more properly combed top, for spinning and felting.

Shetland are small, hardy sheep likely descended from Scottish Dunface. Their wool is extremely variable, able to make sturdy yarns for sweater or select wool (from the neck) is spun into the cobweb and lace yarns for knitted shawls that can be drawn through a wedding band! This wool has a natural gray color which we have overdyed, creating some dramatic color effects. It has diameter of about 30 microns and staple length of 3.5 inches (90mm).

My braids are dyed with fairly even distribution of colors. Photos are of each side of the coil, so you can see as much of the color as possible. These are the same braids from which I spin my yarns, so I dye them for that.

We name our braids based on the inspirations we get from the colors, drawing on nature, literature, mythology, geography, and our lives and travels.  Braids with the same name numbered sequentially are a matched set that were dyed together, although they may have different weights and look slightly different in the photos.
