Jacob / Nylon 80/20% Wool Roving - Fallen Leaves 1 - 4.8 ounces

$15.60 USD

This roving, or more properly combed top, is shades of brown, gray and orange.

This is a base of 80% Jacob wool with an addition of 20% well-blended nylon to improve strength and durability for use as sock yarn. This is a custom blend made up for us by World of Wool.

Jacob sheep are a unique and rare breed, with four horns and spotted black and white fleece. Their origins are ancient and obscure, and may date back to Biblical times. They are classed as a rare breed by the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. Theirs is a medium wool, around 35 microns diameter, and about 3.5" staple. It is a moderately dense, stiff wool, so it is probably not suitable for next-to-the-skin use by sensitive people.

My braids are dyed with fairly even distribution of colors. Photos are of each side of the coil, so you can see as much of the color as possible. These are the same braids from which I spin my yarns, so I dye them for that.

We name our braids based on the inspirations we get from the colors, drawing on nature, literature, mythology, geography, and our lives and travels. If you are curious about a particular name, you can always ask us for an explanation. We may sometimes repeat names, but that doesn’t mean that the braids with the same names are directly related, only that they struck us the same way.
