Northwest Natural Yarn - Locally Produced Alpaca / Merino Wool Yarn, DK weight, 200 yards - Natural Brown

Quantity Available:     6

This yarn is part of our Northwest Natural line of locally produced, natural color yarns. This yarn is made from alpaca sourced from our friend Karin Lowe in Snohomish, Washington. We had it blended with 30% Merino wool and then spun at a small mill in Oregon.

This is a naturally colored light brown yarn, spun to a DK weight. Each skein is 200 yards and weighs about 4 ounces.

This fiber is a blend of 70% alpaca and 30% Merino wool, creating a yarn of great strength, warmth and durability. It should be suitable for wearing next to the skin. The Merino is added to the alpaca to help your garment better retain its shape. The alpaca has less of the crimp that gives wool garments the springiness that helps them keep their form.

Since alpaca is a denser fiber than wool, the yarn is heavier per yard than a pure wool yarn, making the number of yards per pound lower than it would be for a wool yarn of similar thickness.
