Hand dyed yarn - Merino wool yarn, DK weight, 300 yards - Ukko

$12.50 USD

Quantity Available:     1 only

Very soft DK weight yarn made from American-grown Merino wool, and hand painted here at Edgewood Garden Studio.

Three skeins of each colorway have been hand painted together for each listing. Though some of the photos show multiple skeins, each skein is sold separately. Since all of the Merino are the same weight and are dyed over the same light blue base, these colors lend themselves to being “mix and match” yarns.  Be creative in picking multiple colorways for wonderfully unique and personal color arrangements.

Merino is the standard by which the fineness of wool is graded and is among the softest fleeces in the world. It’s an old breed, originally brought to the Iberian peninsula in the 12th or 13th century. Being small bodied, it is grown mostly for its exquisite wool. The staple is crimpy and shorter than some other popular breeds, but makes up for that in its legendary softness.

These skeins are in shades of purple and blue.

Unlike most of our product photos, these yarns are photographed using flash, which makes them appear shinier than they are in real life.

Each colorway in this series of yarns is named for a character from the pre-Christian mythology of Finland and the Saami people. Tellervo is god of storms.

Each skein is 300 yards (274 meters) and 3.5 ounces (100 grams), a DK weight.  The recommended needles are US size 6, or 4mm.
